Vice President, Development
Following a 13-year career in broadcasting and media, including radio, print and television in-front and behind the camera, William Hamilton returned to his first passion of Planning and Development in 1998 to work in renowned, San Diego-based architect Jonathan Segal’s then blossoming studio of top, young talent.
After cutting his teeth on some of California’s finest examples of exciting, vibrant, and inspirational infill development there, Hamilton embarked on a now 20-year career in leadership positions with a veritable who’s-who of the country’s best in-fill, mixed-use and urban development films, including The Olson Company, Lennar Communities, DR Horton and Clark Realty Capital.
While at Clark, Hamilton directed “The Villages at Ft. Irwin,” a $400,000,000 project for The United States Army of 715 homes, 200 apartments, schools, parks, a community pool complex, a 26,000-square foot Community Center, plus a completely new, “Desert Village” town-center with apartments over shops and restaurants and all associated infrastructure in a remote, isolated site in California’s High-Desert, some 40 miles from the nearest freeway or town. This project earned the prestigious “Builder’s Choice Grand Award” for Planning and Design in 2008.
In addition to his work at Clark, Hamilton has lead teams directly responsible for successfully delivering over Half-a-Billion Dollars in mixed-use, residential, commercial, retail, office, restaurant and hospitality projects throughout California, with over $200,000,000 of projects completed in San Diego County alone.
As Vice President of Development at ANI since 2012, Hamilton has earned a reputation as the in-house “Project Whisperer,” often assuming command of challenging projects and delivering them on-time and budget. Among the projects Hamilton has completed for ANI include “The Patio on Goldfinch,” Fireside by the Patio,” ANI Corporate Offices”, Cultivate” in Petaluma (now Harvest),” LuvSurf Mixed-Use,” and the legendary “Saska’s Steakhouse” in Mission Beach.
At present, Hamilton’s Development Team is completing several projects throughout the Western United States. Among these, and reflecting his deep commitment to adaptive re-use and historic preservation, is the transformation of an abandoned warehouse into 40 stunning apartments, including 10 spectacular lofts, just a couple blocks from the Sacramento River in West Sacramento. This project starts construction in July 2018 and should be ready for occupancy in October 2019.
Undergoing entitlement at present is a 16-unit apartment complex in La Mesa. This project is fully-funded and should start construction in April 2019 with expected delivery in Winter 2020.
Hamilton’s team expects to deliver ANI’s Surf Rider Pizza in La Mesa this Fall, and earlier in 2018 delivered Surf Rider Mission Beach, Surf Rider Crown Point, Patio Express in Mission Beach, and several retail shops.
A California native, Hamilton received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Urban Planning from the University of California at San Diego.
His “mantra” is learn through adversity, thrive through vision, compete with integrity, and prosper through commitment.
In his off time, he enjoys boxing, astronomy, maps, jets and pets.
